The economic issues of FC Barcelona have greatly hurt their progression in recent seasons. The Blaugranes, due to their absurd amounts of financial debt and recorded losses, continue to struggle with their transfer operations as well. However, despite those problems, Barcelona have managed to make a strong and competitive squad.
Yet, there is a belief that the club is on the right path to correcting its former mistakes and faults. While Barcelona need a sizeable amount of revenue increase and a decrease in expenditure to ensure that they are fully back on the right track, it seems that the governing footballing organization in Spain has faith in their new methodologies.
As per SPORT, La Liga are confident that Barcelona will soon turn their situation around. Several factors contribute to this, some of them already implemented and others expected to come into play soon.
One of those major factors is the reduction of costs within the club, such as that of staff and squad expenditures, which is a value that has been decreased from €670 million to €500 million.
Another major factor that could end up giving a big boost to Barça’s attempts to clear their financial obligations is the opening of the new Spotify Camp Nou.
The grand stadium, and the true home of FC Barcelona, is currently under reconstruction and it is believed that the stadium will generate significantly increased amounts of revenue for Barcelona and that would help them clear out various amounts of debt.
However, there is still the matter of their transfer restrictions. To balance the books, Barcelona have often relied on several economic levers to keep them afloat in recent times. Yet, at least for La Liga president Javier Tebas, one way for Barcelona to do even better is to part ways with some key figures:
“Barcelona will emerge from the situation it’s in. They have two or three top-level players they can sell. By selling them, they can solve a large part of the problem. This can generate income that doesn’t accrue debt interest, allowing them to pay players.”
Ultimately, the final decisions rest on the shoulders of Barcelona themselves. They get to decide what routes are worth taking, and which ones they wish to avoid.
As it stands, however, the work done by Joan Laporta and his staff must be applauded for sustainably giving Barcelona hope again in terms of economic and sporting redevelopment.
