Little progress has been made by FC Barcelona on the front of the summer transfer market. Neither major arrivals nor departures have been sorted yet, and the entirety of Barça’s operation looks misleading at the moment. Despite hoping to sign some crucial players this summer, Barcelona are yet to make their mark.
Instead, the Catalan club is still looking for approval from the likes of Nico Williams. Other operations, such as the one involving Dani Olmo, have also taken a great chunk of Barça’s attention in order to advance and progress those negotiations as well.
Ultimately, the work that still needs to be done continues to pile up rather than decrease. Much criticism and blame has gone towards Barcelona director Deco in recent days, and many are beginning to feel that he may not have been the right man to take over after Mateu Alemany’s departure.
Now, as highlighted by SPORT, the Barcelona director still needs to prove himself to both fans and the club itself this summer. To do that, he must tend to all the remaining objectives for this transfer window and that includes both the desire to sign players but also remove some from the team’s books.
In terms of arrivals, both Dani Olmo and Nico Williams are on Barça’s agenda. The priority remains to sign the Athletic Club winger, and only his own approval is now pending. Once that arrives, Deco and Barcelona will likely waste no time in settling and paying his release clause to confirm his arrival.
Moreover, as soon as his operation finds a conclusion, Deco will immediately move to sign Dani Olmo. This plan is prepared to help Barça keep both options alive without being dependent on the other and it is no secret that the Catalan club would ideally like to sign both Spaniards.
There is also the case of potentially signing a new midfielder this summer, and some names have reportedly been noted down by the club. However, that would be the final priority for La Blaugrana and their sporting director, one that becomes important only after the fates of the two Spanish forwards have been decided.
However, arrivals are not Barça’s only concern. Deco must also tend to departures such as those of Clement Lenglet, and Vitor Roque, and potentially even a major sale such as that of Raphinha or even Ilkay Gundogan. This would make sure that Barcelona has enough financial stability to pursue their objectives this summer while creating enough salary space to accommodate them.
