Over the last few years, FC Barcelona have signed several world-class players despite their financial problems. They have been able to do so because of the huge pull that the Blaugrana club has for the best players playing throughout the world.
Although they were unable to make such a free signing in the last summer transfer window, prior to that, they were able to incorporate players like Ilkay Gundogan, Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen, and Inigo Martinez without paying any fee for them.
Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona are considering whether they should make a move for one of the most popular players in Europe who is going to run out of his contract next summer, i.e., Mohammad Salah.
The Egyptian winger’s contract with Liverpool is ending at the end of this season, and the Merseyside club has not yet presented him with a new contract. Thus, the player himself recently admitted that he is more out of the club than in.
For now, Barcelona have not made any moves to approach his entourage, and the club is pondering whether a move for him should be made. There are two main hindrances to the Blaugranes making an approach for him.
Firstly, the 32-year-old will have to be signed on a long contract, at least for three years, and his wages will also have to be at par with the other best-paid players in the Catalan team.
Secondly, and more importantly, Barcelona understand that Salah plays the best in the same position as Lamine Yamal does, as both are left-footed and play on the right wing, and getting a new player for this position will not be the best choice for the Blaugranes going forward.
Furthermore, Liverpool are also expected to make an offer for his renewal soon, while the winger has also already received a big offer from Saudi Arabia. Thus, it remains to be seen where he will be playing next season, and Barcelona will remain alert to his situation for now.
