FC Barcelona continue to look for the best possible solutions they can find in terms of recruitments while keeping in mind their rather vulnerable financial position.
As a result, low-cost or free transferable players are the ideal targets for the Catalans while simultaneously scouting only those players that would bring quality to the team as well.
Lo and behold, a new player has emerged as a very favorable target for FC Barcelona due to his recent displays with both his club and country. The player in question is 21-year-old Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, whom Barcelona have developed a keen eye towards.
According to Spanish outlet SPORT, Nico’s impressive season thus far for both Athletic Bilbao in La Liga and the Spanish National team in both their recent fixtures has caught the eye of Barcelona and the Catalan club is open about their interest in the younger of the Williams brothers.
Various factors have contributed to this developed interest that has been present for quite some time now from the perspective of La Blaugrana.
For Bilbao, the player has already recorded 2 assists this season while also showcasing in the previous 2022/23 season to be one of the Spanish league’s very best dribblers given that he was the most effective one only behind Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr.
For Spain, the player has contributed one goal and three assists over the course of their last two games against Georgia and Cyprus for their European Qualifiers. Interestingly, two of his three assists came for Barcelona players. One for Gavi’s opener against Cyprus and one for Lamine Yamal to make history against Georgia.
Nico’s ability to be an explosive winger would be something that suits Barcelona a lot given that they just recently lost Ousmane Dembele this summer to PSG. Dembele’s versatility on the wings and dynamism on the ball was something Xavi considered a true asset for Barcelona.
While Lamine Yamal has been more than impressive for Barcelona already, it’s not worth forgetting that he is still only 16 and cannot possibly be made to play every single match. Moreover, his left-footed expertise coming in from the right wing would be heavily complimented by Nico’s more dominant right foot coming in from the left wing.
The 21-year-old Bilbao player will also be a free agent next summer, as his contract is set to expire in 2024. In the scenario that FC Barcelona are able to make an enticing enough offer and lure the player away, the free transfer would be an absolute bonus for the Catalan giants in a deal that could include one of the most promising Spanish talents around.
