The reasons why Barcelona remains patient with Vitor Roque

Faith in the youth is a great virtue that continues to be adapted by FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants are considered to be among the leading sides when it comes to youth development. It is through this tradition and practice that Barcelona are the great club that they are.

However, not all young stars originate from within Barcelona itself. Some of their greatest young talents also arrive from outside the club, at times even from outside the continent of Europe. One such example is the young 19-year-old Brazilian forward who arrived in the winter window.

However, Vitor Roque, the player in question, has not had the ideal number of opportunities he would have hoped for. Instead, he has been limited to various cameos and chances off the bench rather than getting to start for Barcelona as often as he would have liked.

The reason behind this, as per Mundo Deportivo, is not Xavi’s lack of faith in him. In fact, the Barcelona coach believes him to be a signing for both the short and long run. He even acknowledged that, along with Deco, Roque was a signing that he was eager to have at the club.

Instead, the reasoning behind his limited opportunities is the planning. Barcelona want to gradually get him involved into this mixture and style of football that he is completely alien to. With time, they believe he will be a great asset to the team but that he must first adapt over a period of time.

Moreover, due to his previous injury that he sustained before arriving in Spain, Xavi wanted to be careful. Given his young age, the Barcelona coach believes that he needs the right kind of nurturing at Barcelona for him to excel as he is capable of doing.

Yet, with the amount of attacking talents already present within the club, it would prove to be difficult to give him chances anyway. Lamine Yamal continues to explode overwhelmingly, Lewandowski is regaining his best version, others like Ferran Torres and Joao Felix offer a more developed standard, and many other reasons.

Ultimately, while it may not be today or tomorrow, Roque will get his shot. The Brazilian youngster is a striker with a lot of promise and already with a lot of goals. While he has only one start to his name right now at Barcelona, that tally will likely skyrocket in the coming years.
