The possible return of Lionel Messi to Camp Nou is a subject that is constantly gaining attention at FC Barcelona. It is not only the fans who are thrilled with the expectation of Messi rejoining the club but the dressing room itself is being impacted by the Argentine’s possible return.
According to Toni Juanmarti of Relevo, the dressing room is currently skeptical of the club’s financial condition and believes that if the club has not been able to register Araujo, Gavi, Sergi Roberto, and Marcos Alonso, Messi’s arrival is even more unlikely as it requires greater financial resources.
Furthermore, the squad believes if one of Gundogan, Foyth, or Vitor Roque, is being considered by the club, the chances of Messi’s arrival are even low. However, the report further suggests that none of the players is actually worried about his role in the squad if the Argentine returns to Barcelona this summer.
Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba are regularly in contact with Messi, and both would be looking to continue at the club for longer if Messi joins them. The youngsters are also looking forward to Messi’s return, as sharing the pitch with the best player in the club’s history would not allow them to learn from him, but would also be a source of pride and distinction.
It would also take pressure away from these youngsters, as Messi would be looked upon more for inspiration and leadership at difficult moments. Ter Stegen and Lewandowski also have their feeling aligned with the rest of the group.
Ter Stegen wrote an open letter to Messi when he left the club, in which he downplayed the reported differences between the two players, and enjoys a cordial relationship with Messi. Lewandowski is also aware that Messi’s presence would take pressure away from him, and would also result in greater space for him on the pitch as opposition defenders try to contain the Argentine.
