FC Barcelona want to strengthen their squad this summer by incorporating elite level signings. While Barça definitely has some more-than-convincing young talents to to provide key depth to the squad, they also need unquestionably elite quality in the team as well. To attain this quality, Barcelona is already working on a major operation.
While 22-year-old Nico Williams was originally the name that was being linked to Barça quite heavily, his operation has now taken a great hit. With no finalization or conclusion thus far, it is becoming less likely that the Athletic Club winger ends up joining Barcelona this summer after all.
Instead, La Blaugrana have directed all of their attention towards 26-year-old Dani Olmo now. The €60 million-rated RB Leipzig star is now Barça’s main priority target and his signing is something that they are actively pursuing. Unfortunately, the sporting director of RB Leipzig is quite keen on making one thing clear.
As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Rouven Schröder is quite clear that no matter what happens with Olmo’s transfer, there has to be equality in the benefits gained by all the parties involved in the deal:
“If we don’t reach an agreement with a club, then the player will stay with us. And if there is something suitable, we will consider it. But one thing is also clear: there cannot be just one winner.”
Previously, Schröder even stated that Leipzig are not in a rush to sell the Spanish star and are not being forced to do so:
“We are not under any pressure to sell Dani Olmo.”
Moreover, being one of the major stars for the Bundesliga outfit, Dani Olmo’s departure is definitely something that the German club does not take lightly. However, given how advanced Barça’s interest in the player is and how much the attacking midfielder himself values this interest, the odds are not exactly in the favor of the German club that continues to stay adamant about their demands.
