FC Barcelona knew beforehand that this season’s UEFA Champions League would be a great challenge. With a new format, the already challenging European competition now reaches an entirely new height. However, as always, Barcelona will be expected to compete well in the competition.

Just today, the draw for the league phase of the UEFA Champions League was also done over in Monaco. All the involved teams have found out about their upcoming opponents in the prestigious European competition and FC Barcelona have as well.

Interestingly, La Blaugrana will once again be facing off against Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the competition. A clash that has become more than infamous over the last couple of years, with the team from Spain often encountering the German side at some point or the other during their campaigns in the competition.

Now, following the draw (h/t Barca Buzz), Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Thomas Muller has reacted to facing off against Barcelona again, and in a usual humorous fashion, he says he looks forward to seeing a familiar face again who now leads the Catalan club:

“I am very excited to meet my old friend Hansi Flick with FC Barcelona.”

This sort of statement has become a norm for the German legend, as he does it quite often every season whenever his side is drawn against various opponents in the Champions League. Flick and Muller, however, seem to go way back.

Having been coached by the now Barcelona coach when he was in Bayern Munich, Muller won many titles with Flick in charge. Even apart from that, both Flick and Muller were working together in the German National team as well as coach and player respectively.

Now on different sides that will be facing off in this year’s Champions League, it will be a contest worth waiting for. Barça’s recent record against Bayern has not exactly been a positive one, but the club will hope to turn their fortunes around in this matchup with the former Bavarian coach now by their side.
