With every passing day, FC Barcelona are recovering their injured players slowly yet surely. Hansi Flick will be thrilled to have a bolstered squad to pick from as the Catalan club awaits arguably their toughest period of the season so far.
We covered a story a few days ago revealing that the recovery of three key players could elevate Hansi Flick’s Barcelona to a level that we have not seen before. Now, as per Mundo Deportivo, the three players – Dani Olmo, Gavi, and Fermin Lopez are awaiting their medical discharge to return to the squad for the Sevilla game.
Olmo and Fermin have been out with relatively short-term injuries since the end of the last international break. Gavi on the other hand is set to return to the squad after 11 months as he makes his baby steps back after an ACL injury.
Olmo and Fermin are two contenders for the #10 role at Barcelona and it is unfortunate for Hansi Flick that both players were out injured at the same time. One would expect the duo to get some kind of minutes against Sevilla this weekend.
Gavi on the other hand would be boosted by the fact that he is set to return to the squad after such a long lay-off. The kind of character that he is, he will undoubtedly want to play but it is up to Hansi Flick to make that decision based on the state of the game.
Should Gavi not get a few minutes against Sevilla, it will be highly unlikely for him to get any sort of game time against Bayern Munich or Real Madrid which are bound to be high-intensity games. Thus, the 20-year-old will have to be patient.
With big games on the horizon, Flick will prioritize bringing Dani Olmo into shape as soon as possible. Ideally, the German coach will want him to start against Bayern and Real Madrid if he is ready and Sevilla is a good game to induct him.
Let’s wait and see how Hansi Flick goes about handling the re-introductions of these three players. The German coach has shown a great understanding of managing his squad so far and it remains to be seen how this particular situation pans out.
