FC Barcelona have had an incredible start to the new season under Hansi Flick. They are coming off one of their best weeks in a long time, beating Bayern Munich and Real Madrid back-to-back with an aggregate score of 8-1.
Different players have emerged as important cogs for Hansi Flick at different times so far this season. One player who has played more in these initial weeks than he had probably expected is Eric Garcia, who has predominantly played as a defensive midfielder.
With the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, and Marc Bernal out injured, Eric saw a lot of game time as a rotation option to Pedri and Marc Casado. However, the former two players have returned, which should see the Spaniard relegated to a more peripheral role.
Now, as per Fichajes, Barcelona is willing to part ways with Eric Garcia in January with three La Liga clubs interested. Real Betis, Real Sociedad, and Girona are all interested in signing the player. Last season, he spent his time on loan with Girona and that could be his most likeliest destination.
The issue for Eric at Barcelona right now is that both in defensive midfield and at center-back, the injured players have returned or are soon to return. This means that the 23-year-old might not get a look in, except in extraordinary scenarios.
The €20m-rated Spanish defender was one of the best players in La Liga last season. For Girona, in an inspirational campaign under Michel, Eric was one of the shining lights, playing both at right-back and center-back.
Eric had to miss the games against Sevilla, Bayern, and Real Madrid but is expected to return to action against Espanyol in the Catalan derby this weekend. It remains to be seen if Flick gives him any minutes against their city rivals.
