Three out-of-favor Barcelona defenders garnering interest from Serie A giants

FC Barcelona have been in talks with Inter Milan since January about possible deals between the clubs that could be favorable for both sides. It was reported that the Italian club inquired about the possibility of a swap deal involving Brozovic and Franck Kessié. In the most recent visit to Barcelona, Inter executives were said to inquire about three exit-linked central defenders.

Umtiti: A Possible Option for Inter

Not unlike the Catalan giants, Inter Milan have little money to invest in their squad and the club is looking for opportunities to sign players who are deemed surplus to requirement by their current teams as per the recent reports from SPORT.

The World Cup winner would be a viable option for Inter if they can reach an agreement with the player and put some money on the table. The French defender has struggled with injuries since his incredible World Cup campaign in 2018, and Barcelona look keen on getting the former Lyon man off their books.

Lenglet: The Tottenham Connection

The situation with Clement Lenglet is more complicated as Tottenham are already negotiating a transfer with Barcelona, and the talks appear to be going well. Clement Lenglet failed to impress with his defensive attributes for Barca following a €35 million transfer from Sevilla in 2018 despite his excellent ball-playing abilities.

Eric Garcia: The Unlikeliest departure

Eric Garcia is not one of the players that Barcelona are keen on selling, at least for now. Although he has not played as much as some of the Camp Nou faithful may have hoped, the Spain international is highly regarded within the club, having come through the ranks at Barcelona’s famed La Masia.

The 22-year-old is thought to have the potential to become a top defender in the future, with Xavi even experimenting with him in the Busquets role this season. Unless Barcelona receives an offer that they cannot refuse, it seems unlikely that Eric Garcia will be moving anytime soon.

Potential Outcomes:

The rift between La Liga and FC Barcelona is at an all-time high following Joan Laporta’s recent comments. Which may mean the Catalan giants may have to free up some space from their books if they are to afford to register the likes of Gavi and make Lionel Messi’s return a real possibility, meaning that apart from a handful of players, everyone could be up for sale if the right offer comes.
