Barcelona continue their quest to reinforce their team over the course of the summer window, but are well aware of their current economical limitations to do so in accordance to their prior financial mismanagements.
As a result, it became essential for the Catalan club, and especially its higher-ups to take certain actions that would ultimately be for the benefit of FC Barcelona, no matter the difficulty.
The most relevant of such actions were considered to be the transfer of players that are now surplus to requirements at Barcelona and take up space that the club believes to be of better use to other players.
One such player was Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie, who has thus far only had one season to prove his worth at FC Barcelona following his arrival from Italian giants AC Milan in the summer of last year.
Now, as per Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, English Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign the 26-year-old midfielder and are negotiating with Barcelona. At the same time, Juventus Sporting Director Cristiano Giuntoli is also working hard to get the deal over the line for Kessie as per the report.
Both Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus have been negotiating with Barcelona for Franck Kessie for quite some time now. The interest from both has been consistent, albeit wavering, and now it seems that a final agreement could be reached soon.
During the 2022/2023 season, Kessie was used sparingly by Xavi Hernandez, despite the Ivorian scoring in some very crucial moments, a particular one being his stoppage-time winner against Real Madrid in La Liga Santander.
Now, it seems that with the influx of midfielders in the Barcelona squad, owing partly to the new recruitments of Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu, Kessie would be in for even lesser opportunities next season. As a result, a transfer away from the Catalan club seems the most likely possibility for the 26-year-old.
