FC Barcelona are set to take on English Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur, led by Australian manager Ange Postecoglou, for this year’s edition of the annually contested Joan Gamper Trophy.
The clash is expected to be the final hurdle for both teams as they head into the official seasons for their respective leagues with Barcelona facing off against Getafe in La Liga and the next opponent for Spurs being Brentford in the Premier League.
While the Catalans are expected to field a strong eleven to face off against their English opposition at the Olympic Lluis Company stadium, it appears that the opponents for Barcelona may be coming into this fixture a bit understaffed.
Having already faced off against Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in a pre-season friendly less than 48 hours ago, Spurs will be traveling to Barcelona without a number of players according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol.
The list of players not traveling also includes Tottenham talisman Harry Kane, who has been linked to German Bundesliga side Bayern Munich in recent weeks. Kane was instrumental in the last outing against Shakhtar for his side, scoring four out of the five goals in the 5-1 victory for Spurs.
This comes as a slight blow to the overall competitive spirit of the clash scheduled to take place in Barcelona, as a strongly positioned eleven from both sides would have generated major buzz as it is.
However, despite the absentees, the game is set to be a great test for both Barcelona and Spurs as they look to figure out their final touches respectively before officially kicking off their new seasons in Spain and England.
