One of the main objectives of FC Barcelona for the upcoming summer transfer window is to offload their fringe players that will not only help the club gain more space in their wage bill, but also gain some funds in the form of transfer fees.
The French center-back Clement Lenglet is one of the players that the club has been looking to offload for a number of years now. The defender came to Barcelona in 2018, and played a significant number of games for the following three years, before his performances went downhill and the club was looking to offload him.
With no permanent buyer ready to spend the money on him, Barcelona sent him on loan to Tottenham in the last summer transfer window.
The defender has seen his game time improve in the London-based club, as he made 34 appearances for them during the last season. Satisfied with his performances, SPORT reports that Tottenham are willing to buy the player, and have also provided some details of the offer that they are contemplating for the player.
According to this report, Spurs will only present a low offer to Barcelona, one lying around the €5 million mark. However, even such an offer will be attractive to Barcelona as this would take Lenglet off their wage bill, and thus save around €10 million, which was the net wage for the Frenchman at Barcelona.
Tottenham are willing to offer the player the same wages that he would have earned at Barcelona, and a long contract for several years. However, this would mean a low transfer fee for Barcelona in order to match up the numbers for Spurs.
FC Barcelona were initially demanding €12 million for the player, but it is becoming increasingly clear that this price will have to go down. Thus, in addition to the savings in wage bill, FC Barcelona will also be looking to get a high portion of any proceeds from future sale of the player to compensate for the low offer.
Thus, FC Barcelona have an opportunity to significantly reduce their wage bill by selling an unwanted defender, even though the transfer fee will be low. Still, a penny saved is a penny earned, and selling Lenglet even for €5 million looks like a good piece of business.
Nonsense they have sent him back to you ,your effort to palm him off to Spurs has not worked ,he is not good enough for us
