FC Barcelona have one final test to overcome before the international break of October takes off and a lengthy hiatus starts. Facing Granada on Sunday, Barcelona will want to ensure they take away all three points from matchday nine to ensure they remain strong in their quest for La Liga.
However, one problem remains that has to be addressed now and will carry on after the international break as well. Robert Lewandowski was just recently injured in the clash against Porto in the Champions League, and Barca must find a replacement for him in time.
Unfortunately, Barcelona currently only has three available forwards in the first team. Joao Felix, Ferran Torres, and Lamine Yamal are the only attackers in the first team that Xavi can currently count on. As a result, the head coach has had to turn towards the subsidiary.
According to the information provided by Spanish outlet SPORT, two hopeful subsidiary forwards are currently awaiting the final squad list that ends up traveling to Granada. The players in question are Marc Guiu (17 years of age) and Pau Victor (21 years of age).
Both are considered proper battering rams and target men given their abilities. Pau Victor is the more experienced and mature of the two, having already spent last season on loan at Sabadell where he scored an impressive eight goals while also providing six assists.
17-year-old Marc Guiu on the other hand is an upcoming star in the making. Despite his young age, he possesses physical traits able to match up with players much older than him. His gameplay is based solely on him being a traditional target man, and could not be further away from that of a traditional Barcelona academy product.
From among the two, SPORT claims that only one will end up being taken into the final squad list. Given Victor’s seniority, it is more likely that he will end up getting the nod as per the report.
Another subsidiary player currently training with the first team is Marc Casado, who could also have a shot at being called up. However, the possibility of multiple players getting called up is also realistic, given that squad depth is currently proving to be an issue.
None of the three players in question have been included in the latest squad list for Barcelona Atletic and this just furthers the claim for their selection. It will now be left upon Xavi to address the issue of whom to take alongside the first team, given that Pedri and Frenkie De Jong also remain injured and unavailable for now.
