The loss to Club America will surely have left a sour taste in the mouth of FC Barcelona. However, the game was more or less inconsequential as a friendly that was organized simply to raise additional funds. On the other hand, Barcelona did have a few moments to look back fondly upon.
A 3-2 loss to the Mexican side was what the final scoresheet showcased. However, the game did present a viable opportunity for Xavi Hernandez to give chances to his subsidiary youngsters. Two of these said youngsters both got on the scoresheet, and that too in their unique ways.
As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, both Lamine Yamal and Marc Guiu were the two scorers for FC Barcelona. The 16-year-old winger was responsible for opening the scoring in the 6th minutes, while the 17-year-old striker scored Barça’s second goal in the game.
The opening goal that came through Lamine Yamal was a great showcase of individual ability. A solo goal that is a testament to his prodigious talents, Yamal left two defenders in his wake before putting a clever shot past the Club America goalkeeper.
His silky touches allowed him to almost glide past the defenders, and a slightly chipped shot first hopped the defender’s leg and went into the goal just slightly beyond the keeper’s reach. While he did not celebrate the goal much, it is still something for Barcelona fans to think fondly about.
Then came Marc Guiu’s addition as the second goal for Barcelona. A display of his striker’s instinct, much of the work was done for him by another talented youngster, Hector Fort.
Following some clever pass and goes, Fort managed to drag the ball up to the edge of the Club America box in the 28th minute, and then intricately curved a pass through to Marc Guiu.
Seeing his opportunity, Guiu made sure not to waste his chance. He sliced at the ball with full speed and it trickled past the Club America goalkeeper.
The 17-year-old striker, much like Yamal, continues to showcase his own unique abilities as well. A natural goalscorer, he continues to knock on Xavi’s door to keep giving him more and more chances.
