FC Barcelona managed to end 2023 on a note that is not too positive nor is it too condemning. La Blaugrana definitely hope for a better start to 2024, but their current year still has left them in a position from which they can compete. However, a look back at 2023 is also very important for the Catalans in order to improve.
Certain players definitely have a more consistent year than others. Combining both the second half of the 2022/23 season and the ongoing 2023/24 campaign, very few players can actually claim to have been reliably excellent throughout. Yet, these players are given their warranted applause.
As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, analytical site Sofascore has just released their 2023 La Liga EA Sports Team of the Year. Based on the average rating scores made by the statistics of Sofascore themselves, the team consists of the eleven best players in the league as per their metrics.
From FC Barcelona, two players have made that final eleven in the Team of the Year. French defender Jules Kounde and Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong both represent La Blaugrana in the final team. Kounde (7.10) occupies the right-back position as the fullback with the best average rating across the year.
On the other hand, De Jong (7.30) occupies the pivot position in the final eleven. Apart from the two Barcelona stars, only Real Madrid has two representatives in the team as well. Other selected players each represent a different team.
Toni Kroos (7.48) and Federico Valverde (7.28) are the players from Real Madrid. Former Barcelona player Antoine Griezmann (7.74) is the only representative from Atletico Madrid and is also the highest-rated player in the team.
Takefusa Kubo (7.33), Yuri Berchiche (7.03), Loic Bade (7.07), Antonio Raillo (7.18), and Conan Ledesma (7.22) represent Real Sociedad, Athletic Bilbao, Sevilla, Mallorca, and Cadiz respectively. Barcelona target Aleix Garcia (7.52) is also in the team as the sole representative from Girona.
