Barcelona have in recent weeks become more vigilant of the options in the market that concern the pivot or central defensive midfield position. This is due to the departure of club legend Sergio Busquets, who the club must not find a replacement for.
While contradicting reports continue to circulate as to which candidate currently possesses the biggest interest from Barcelona, it is however assured that there are a handful of names that continue to spark these reports around them.
As revealed by Gerard Romero and reported by the Spanish news outlet SPORT, there are two names that are currently most favored by the Barcelona higher-ups. The two names in question are those of Dani Parejo of Villarreal and Oriol Romeu of Girona.
Both these players are beginning to gain La Blaugrana’s attention due to two factors primarily. Stylistically it is believed they would fit Barcelona without much issue, and secondly, they are economically more feasible options than Xavi’s initial primary targets.
Dani Parejo and Oriol Romeu have one and two years left on their contract respectively. If they do not end up renewing with their own sides soon, they may be willing to let them leave for lesser transfer fees than they would ideally have wanted for them.
On the other hand, the operations concerning Marcelo Brozovic and Martin Zubimendi also remain intact. However, both of those involve a much more significant financial sacrifice that Barcelona are assessing simultaneously, albeit it remains complicated.
The option of Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich is also one that the Catalan club is still unsure of given the significant funding it would require, one that Barcelona are most possibly unwilling to expend at the moment.
