Despite their failed attempts, Barcelona do not give up on resetting their current squad. The Blaugrana are not as competitive as they used to be in the past, and they want to change that fact. However, to do that, Barcelona will first need to make some adequate adjustments.
One of those adjustments would be to find specialists in specific roles so that the team can compete in a functional way. At the moment, several positions within the team offer no adequate solution, and thus alternative options have to be deployed by Barcelona to correct those problems.
Two of those positions, as highlighted by the club as per reports, are the interior and defensive midfielder positions. For the latter, according to Mundo Deportivo, a certain name from the English Premier League has been highlighted, while a player from La Liga is considered for the interior position.
Amadou Onana, aged just 22, is a defensive midfielder who plays for Premier League side Everton. One of the most promising players in his position in the league itself, the Nigerian midfielder, who currently represents the Belgian National team, is a player whom Deco in particular values a lot.
His technical abilities are backed by extremely powerful physical traits. Moreover, he strikes Barcelona as one of the most competent pivots who also would be able to match their idea of the style of play they wish to deploy.
Furthermore, with Everton on the brink of relegation, his arrival could potentially be made easier. In the event that the team does get demoted, the player could end up being willing to move and Everton would thus be forced to sell him for cheap. However, other sides like Chelsea are also reportedly interested in the midfielder.
As for a new interior, however, Barcelona have another name in mind. Aleix Garcia, captain, and midfielder of Catalan side Girona, is a name that Barcelona seem to value a lot. His progressive abilities and balancing traits are such that allow his current team to play the attractive brand of football that they play.
While he has a release clause worth €20 million, as per Girona according to speculation, Barcelona believe otherwise. For them, the complete operation would cost somewhere around €15 million. Moreover, with several players possibly available to be used as a bargaining chip, Barcelona could look to make it even more affordable for themselves.
