Two on-loan Barcelona stars could be left out of Flick’s plans

Although he is yet to be officially appointed by the club, Hansi Flick seems to have already started contributing to the planning for the next season at FC Barcelona.

There have been several discussions between the Barcelona Sporting Director, Deco, and the German tactician, in which they have agreed upon the way forward, although there are some areas of disagreement.

According to SPORT, one such area on which the two parties do not entirely agree is that of Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo, two players who had played at Barcelona on loan this season.

Flick is not entirely clear that he wants them to be in his squad for the next term, but Barcelona believe they can contribute to the team and can be economically viable options for the club.

Xavi himself had to compromise somewhat with Joao Felix as he was not a part of his plans, but the former midfielder had to accommodate him in his plans. After having a period of prominence with the team, the Portuguese started fading away and had only a substitute role at the club in the latter parts of the campaign.

Felix himself wants to continue at the Catalan club, and the Blaugranes themselves are open to retaining him if they can extend his loan stay, but Flick wants to explore some other options in attack.

However, Flick is also not entirely averse to the idea of having Felix in the squad, and the market situation will ultimately decide his fate. If another top winger is signed, he will have to leave, but if both Vitor Roque and Ansu Fati depart this summer, he might have chances to stay at Barcelona.

But as things stand, he is more outside than inside, and his agent, Jorge Mendes, is already looking for other possible destinations for him.

Similarly, Barcelona also believe that Joao Cancelo is one of the best players in his position, and value his presence. If he can be acquired permanently and his salary is reduced, he would be welcome to stay at the club.

However, Flick is worried with the defensive problems being caused by both Cancelo and Balde, and believes this is one of the key problems that his future team will have to solve going forward. Thus, he wants more defensive fullbacks on both sides, and the future of both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo is far from certain at the Catalan club.
