The match against Bayern Munich was only the latest indication of the giant leap that the FC Barcelona forward Raphinha has taken since the start of this season. The Brazilian forward scored a hat-trick in that game and won the MVP award on the night for a highly influential game against such a big opponent.

With his performances up to now, Raphinha is only justifying his decision to remain at the Blaugrana club in the last summer transfer window, when he had some very high offers lined up for him, and there was some pressure on him to leave.

The 27-year-old Brazilian winger is garnering praise from all quarters, with Shaka Hislop even recently describing him as ‘unplayable‘ at the moment.

Barcelona needed a big sale in the summer, and the Saudi side Al-Hilal was willing to pay up to €100 million for him. Several Premier League sides, including Chelsea, were also interested in him.

Furthermore, the arrival of Dani Olmo and the pursuit of Nico Williams also made it clear that Barcelona might be looking to shake up their attacking line.

However, Raphinha made it clear before leaving for the 2024 Copa America that he would continue at Barcelona, and Deco also bet heavily on him, as the Portuguese official was convinced that he would have his big season this year.

This decision has paid off, as he is now a captain of the team, both on and off the pitch, and one of the most important players in Hansi Flick’s team.

According to SPORT, Deco, who used to be Raphinha’s agent before he took the job at Barcelona, understands that the Brazilian really wants to mark an era at the Catalan club and is completely open to a contract renewal.

The Blaugranas have other high-priority renewals lined up, including those of Gavi, Pedri, Araujo, and De Jong, with Raphinha’s renewal expected to follow once these deals are finalized, as his contract runs until 2027.

The club is aware of his desire to continue at Barcelona, leaving no doubt that he will eventually renew his contract.

However, as Raphinha is one of the highest earners in the squad and the Catalans want to keep the wage bill in check, his salary will be improved, but a significant portion will consist of performance-based bonuses.
