The explosion of youth at FC Barcelona this season is definitely an unorthodox situation. Very rarely does one club see so many exciting talents emerge simultaneously, and then be able to perform on a consistent basis. For Barcelona, this particular situation is their everyday reality.

Some of the finest young footballers in Europe right now all represent the Barcelona first team. While the irruptions of players like the wondrous Lamine Yamal and the lethal Pau Cubarsi are wonders to behold, there are others who have not been given the same recognition due to the great presence and impact of the aforementioned names.

However, that should not take away from the accomplishments of others. One such player who, despite not playing as regularly as the likes of Yamal and Cubarsi, continues to rise and ascend within the Barcelona ranks is 17-year-old Spanish fullback Hector Fort.

A player who possesses great versatility, he is able to fit in almost anywhere and everywhere. As highlighted by SPORT, his display against Atletico Madrid, despite not being in his ideal position, was once again a prime example of his talent and skill.

Even though he is currently on a youth contract, and his release clause is not that high, Barcelona hope to change that. Currently aged 17, Barça will look to extend his stay and improve his contract’s security as soon as he turns 18.

He is no longer expected to head back to Barcelona Atletic, and has become a part of the first team with the future in mind as well. Identified by those who know him as being very competitive, he has the spirit needed to play for Barcelona. Even for Xavi, Fort is someone who deserves the plaudits for his performance:

“He’s been brilliant even though he hasn’t played in his natural position. He’s a very strong physically and never complicates things, he plays simple. He doesn’t invent, he plays what he sees, attacking spaces at the right moment.”

“We’ve been talking to him, we’ve shown him a video because it’s not his position, but he can play perfectly well. He’s ready, and he plays with personality, without fear of making mistakes. He’s eager for success and that’s the key.”

His future with both Barcelona and Spain looks bright, just like that of Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi. Alejandro Balde’s injury may have allowed Fort the opportunity to come into the first-team fold gradually, but he has had to work to achieve the praise that he is now receiving, despite still not playing in his ideal position.
