With FC Barcelona unwilling to sell any of its players because of an already short squad, one source from which the Catalan club was hopeful of bringing in some much-needed finances in the last winter window was through the sales of players on which they had a sell-on clause.
In this category, one of the players who seemed most likely to change clubs in January was the French defender, Jean Claire Todibo, who had emerged as one of the most in-demand center-backs in France in the last season.
His current club OGC Nice was not too keen on letting the player go, but several Premier League sides kept pushing for his signing. However, there was no thought of even a possibility of the defender coming back to play at Barcelona, the club he had left permanently in the summer of 2021.
But it is clear that the defender has grown in the last few years to such an extent that he can raise the quality of the Barcelona defense if he was to rejoin the club.
He also seems open to such a move, as he commented in a recent interview which has been reported by SPORT. Without thinking twice, the Frenchman commented: “Return to Barcelona? Why not?”
However, with the rise of Pau Cubarsi in the first team, it is very unlikely that Barcelona would be going into the market for a defender. Still, nothing is certain for now, and a lot will change if Bayern Munich keeps on pushing for Ronald Araujo, and Christensen continues to receive interest from the Premier League.
Both these transfers will allow Barcelona to get a net profit, and thus balance their books in regards to Financial Fair Play. In such a context, there could also be a change of heart about Todibo at Barcelona, but there is nothing to indicate the Catalan club’s interest in him for now.
