FC Barcelona have been trying to sign Dani Olmo for quite some time now. The Catalan club recently submitted a €55m plus €7m add-ons bid to RB Leipzig for the player but are yet to get a definitive response.
Olmo had a release clause in his contract that expired on July 20 for around €60m. Barcelona’s revised offer for the 26-year-old almost matches his release clause. Yet, there seems to be hesitation on the club’s part to let the player go.
As Barcelona continue building up towards a new season, they are yet to make their first big signing of the summer. Yes, the club has acquired Pau Victor who has hit the ground running but will want to send out a statement with a signing like Olmo.
As per SPORT, it is not just Barcelona that want to sign Olmo. There are reasons why RB Leipzig might also need to make his sale this summer, considering the fact that he is one of their most valuable players.
The report goes on to explain that the Red Bull arena needs an upgrade as soon as possible. The stadium is currently outdated. The club also wants to expand its commercial areas to host third-party events.
To do all of this, they need to generate income which is exactly what selling Olmo will get them. Without this sale, the revamp project is likely to get delayed or at least slowed down which the club wants to avoid.
Barcelona can look to take advantage of this situation and convince the German club to sell the player as soon as possible. They have made a rather reasonable offer for the 26-year-old which Leipzig might accept.
It might only be a matter of time before Dani Olmo is a Barcelona player. Let’s hope we get this deal over the line this week.
