Xavi asks Barcelona for more signings after the win against Real Madrid

FC Barcelona came out victorious from the El Classico clash in the USA, with the Catalan side ending the match with a three-goal surplus. While the team and the coach were satisfied with the team’s performance in this match, Xavi seems to be still unsatisfied with the squad he has at his hands.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Xavi spoke in the mixed zone after the end of the match against Real Madrid and showed his desire to strengthen the squad further to win all the titles available to him in the coming season. The Barcelona head coach commented:

“The transfer market closes on August 31st. Many things can happen. Hopefully, we can reinforce a little more. We need it. The sports management knows it, and the president knows it. Despite the result and the excitement, we need something more.” He then added, “Madrid has a deeper squad than ours.”

Barcelona have already made a number of signings by this time in the summer transfer window, with the confirmed names being those of Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez, and Oriol Romeu. Vitor Roque has also been confirmed, but it is not yet decided whether he will come this summer or in the winter window.

However, Xavi wants more signings this summer to further enhance the quality of his squad. The Barcelona gaffer is looking for an attacking midfielder, ideally Bernardo Silva or Giovani Lo Celso, and a right-back, with Joao Cancelo and Ivan Fresneda being the primary targets for the Catalans.

With more than one month till the summer transfer market closes, Barcelona still have some time to make these moves. However, the club is not in an ideal financial state right now, and it remains to be seen how much the club can conform to Xavi’s wishes for the upcoming season.
