FC Barcelona have done well to fortify their squad ahead of next season with new signings made in the transfer window. Apart from these acquisitions, though, the return of Barcelona loanees also promises to bring about rejuvenated energy within the squad.
Barcelona are set to part ways with some players like Collado, Lenglet, and Nico Gonzalez, but not all individuals returning from their respective loan spells are considered disposable. After the conclusion of a successful period at Osasuna, Ez Abde has been looked at with fondness by the coaching staff.
As per SPORT, Xavi believes Barcelona are best off with Abde continuing with the squad next season rather than being sold in the transfer market. Although the coach is aware that the Moroccan is one of the players for whom Barcelona has received offers and that his sale may be required for “Fair Play” reasons, he has already expressed to the management his desire to retain Abde.
His insistence is a consequence of Abde’s electric play style and unique profile within the squad. Barcelona currently lacks direct dribblers like Ousmane Dembele, and the 21-year-old winger is sure to provide a different element on the left flank.
Against cagey low blocks, the speedster has the traits to break down oppositions and engender openings in the final third. Currently, the Catalans possess players like Fati and Ferran on the left wing, who offer excellent interpretation of space but are incapable of taking players on regularly.
As such, Abde would fill a void in the squad with his distinct play style. Considering Barcelona fell short in their pursuit of Carrasco, Moroccan is considered a solid alternative.
Abde will have the opportunity to increase his chances of continuing in the pre-season matches played in the USA, but Barcelona are aware that there is significant interest in him following his excellent tenure at Osasuna. Barcelona’s finances may compel them to work for his departure down the line, but Xavi appears to be gunning for his continuance.
