FC Barcelona are set to take on Athletic Club as they resume their campaign for La Liga tonight after the last international break. The club has completed its preparations for the match and has announced the squad that will represent the Catalan club in this match.
As already reported here, nineteen players have been called up by Xavi for this match. The squad for this match is rather shorter than usual, mainly because of the several injuries to first-team players, including Kounde, Lewandowski, Roberto, Pedri, De Jong, and Raphinha.
Three youngsters called up by Xavi
Owing to this shortage of personnel, Xavi has called up three players from the subsidiary, as has been reported by SPORT. The squad list announced by FC Barcelona confirmed the presence of Hector Fort, Unai Hernandez, and Marc Guiu in the first team.
Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal have also recovered from the knocks they had been suffering from in recent weeks and are parts of the squad announced for this upcoming match.
Guiu, Hernandez, and Fort
Marc Guiu has already been called up by Xavi, but the youngster could not make his first-team debut in the match against Granada. He is more a target man, who does not need to drift around the pitch and can still get chances to score goals.
The other two youngsters, Unai Hernandez and Hector Fort are also highly exciting players. Hector Fort mainly operates as an attacking right-back, and Xavi has called him up because the injuries to Kounde and Sergi Roberto have left this position rather thin.
Unai Hernandez operates mainly in the midfield, but his versatility allows him to be comfortable both as an interior and on the wing. Both these players had minutes with the first team in the friendly against Vissel Kobe in Japan during the summer and will be hoping to get on the pitch tonight as well.
