Barcelona head coach Xavi

Xavi comments on transfer rumors linking Barcelona youngster to Real Madrid

FC Barcelona are still not done with their transfer business and are active with a number of operations in the market. The Catalans are looking to make some signings, but before that, they will have to offload some of their players to make space for the new players in the wage bill.

One of the players who has been strongly linked to a move away from the club in recent days is the youngster Ansu Fati. Barcelona are looking to sell the player and his situation was also one of the subjects of Xavi’s press conference today.

Links to Real Madrid

The Real Madrid head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, have a press conference today, in which he was asked about the possibility of Fati joining the capital club. Ancelotti refrained from giving a clear answer, but praised the player’s talent.

As SPORT has reported, this event did not go unnoticed at Barcelona, as Xavi was also asked about Fati possibly being linked to Madrid. Xavi could not believe this was a serious question, as he replied:

“Ansu to Madrid? Are you kidding? I’ve already been very clear when talking about Ansu. Debates are being generated that don’t make sense. Ansu is an important player and is an asset of the club, both for the present and the future.

Xavi then went on to comment that Fati is facing no problem sportingly at Barcelona:

“Sterile debates are being generated about Ansu, and I don’t understand it. He’s a player who belongs to Barça, and we count on him. He’s in good shape, and we’re very happy with his performance. Hopefully, all of this can be put to rest because it doesn’t make sense.”

FFP problems can force the club’s hand

However, Xavi still made it clear that most of the players at Barcelona have their future uncertain at the moment, as the club can sell almost any of them if a suitable offer comes:

“We have a challenging situation with the fair play issue. It’s something we’ve been dealing with for a while, and it’s a complex situation we’re grappling with. You can see it with the registration matter. In the end, we’ll need to assess and prioritize for the team and make decisions based on this.”

These comments from Xavi will clear some of the air regarding Ansu Fati. However, as Xavi himself also mentioned, the club is in a dire economic situation, and that can force the club to sell even some of their best assets to ensure its long-term sustainability.
