The latest Barcelona training session in Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper saw some fresh faces amongst the squad. One such face was that of Lucas Roman, who has been called up by Xavi to train with the first team.
Roman is one of the latest additions to the Barcelona B squad, as he was bought from Argentine Club Ferro Carril Oeste, for a transfer fee of €1.2 million. While Roman was bought to be a part of the Barcelona B squad, and gradually move to higher levels as he continued his development, he is yet to make a debut with the B team. This debut is expected to take place in the upcoming Barcelona B match on the day following the first team’s clash with Real Betis.
Another new face in the training session was that of Ángel Alarcón, who was also called up by Xavi to train with the first team. These youngsters have been called up with the First XI mainly because of a shortage up front.
Ousmane Dembele was injured in the last La Liga match against Girona and is expected to miss action for 4-5 upcoming weeks. Furthermore, Memphis Depay also departed the club to join Atletico Madrid, thus further depleting the team’s attack.
These youngsters can thus end up playing an important role in Barcelona’s success this season. The business end of the season is already around us, as the club is expected to compete for three major trophies in Copa del Rey, La Liga, and Europa League. Thus, it will need as much firepower as it can generate, and use all its tools efficiently to end the season on a positive note, ideally with some silverware.
