While he has started only one game this season, one of the most in-form players currently at FC Barcelona is the winger, Ferran Torres. The former Manchester City ace has been performing at a personally unprecedented level since the pre-season this summer.
In competitive matches, Torres has already scored three goals and is currently tied with Lewandowski with the highest goals for Barcelona, and is also the second on the list for Pichichi with eight other players.
Xavi again commends Torres
As reported here earlier, he was one of the players that Xavi praised after the match against Betis, as he scored a goal from a free-kick in the match to keep up his amazing form.
Now, as Mundo Deportivo has highlighted, in the pre-match conference for the Champions League opening tie against Royal Antwerp, Xavi once again spoke highly of Torres:
“Ferran told me that he needed to have a very good preseason, that he was convinced he could give his best and prove it. We have given him the necessary time to demonstrate it. It doesn’t surprise us because we have seen him train. Effort and sacrifice for him are non-negotiable. He is and will be important.”
Ferran Torres has definitely deserved this praise from Xavi after an underwhelming last season at Barcelona.
Felix’s effort also recognized by the coach
However, Torres was not the only one praised by Xavi in this press conference, as he also picked out Joao Felix to commend his attitude in training and use him as an example for the rest of the squad:
“As a coach, if there is no attitude, there is no place on the team. Those without attitude cannot be at Barcelona. Joao’s attitude is like that of everyone else, positive and eager to work and contribute.”
The hard work from both these players was on display in the match against Betis, as both of them impressed in that tie. Now they will be looking ahead to the Champions League clash to get even more minutes and continue their good start to the season at Barcelona.
