The current campaign for FC Barcelona sees not just new faces added to the squad under Xavi Hernandez, but also to the entire office and structure of Barcelona under President Joan Laporta as new members holding key positions become integrated within the set up itself.
The latest official arrival of former Barcelona player Deco as the new Sporting Director of FC Barcelona has received some skeptical glances due to reports suggesting there were undeniable differences between him and Barcelona coach Xavi, who also happens to be a former player and legend of the club.
However, as highlighted by Spanish outlet SPORT, the Barcelona head coach disregards all these rumors and states that his relationship with Deco is perfectly in tune and positive considering their official tasks at hand at Barcelona require their unity, stating:
“I don’t want to imply that I speak ill of Deco’s arrival. It has been said that I don’t have a good relationship with Deco, and that’s untrue.”
Further detailing his faith in the new Sporting Director, the Barcelona manager also provided insight into the strengths of Deco:
“I’m very comfortable with Deco. I believe we will do a very good job. Debate closed. I like Deco, just as I liked Mateu and Jordi.”
Xavi also remained transparent regarding the knowledge of Mateu Alemany’s departure, stating that it was well known within the structure of the club that the current Director of Football would be leaving but the Barcelona coach remains clear that his contributions will long outlive just his tenure:
“Mateu has done an extraordinary job. Today’s Barca can’t be understood without Mateu or Jordi Cruyff. I wish him the best of luck wherever he goes.”
