Xavi talks about the overall performance of the team, Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati, Sergio Busquets, Lewandowski, Frenkie, and Sergi Roberto in his post-match press conference after the 2-0 win against Cadiz.
Xavi on the overall team performance:
“I think that in general, the team has been good. The first half was very good, with dominance and chances. In the second half, we slowed down and it was noticeable.”
Xavi on Cadiz:
“We were lucky not to concede. Cadiz deserved at least a goal. They had clear chances, but Ter Stegen was extraordinary.”
Xavi on Ansu Fati:
“Ansu is very good at playing inside, close to the striker. The brain of a forward is complicated. Ansu Fati has scored goals all his life, they’ll come back eventually.”
Xavi on Ferran Torres:
“Ferran has taken a big step forward to gain confidence. It’s difficult to showcase all of your abilities here since the beginning due to the pressure and everything else. I’ve always said that Ferran is a guarantee.”
Xavi on substituting Frenkie and Lewandowski:
“Frenkie and Lewandowski are two vital players, and I decided to give them some rest at the end. We have to go compete in Manchester. We watched them today.”
Xavi on 8-point advantage over Real Madrid:
“The point difference is nice, but the league is not over yet. We have to keep working hard.”
Xavi on Sergi Roberto:
“Sergi Roberto is a very versatile player who can play in multiple positions. This is great for any coach. I’m very happy with him and happy that he will stay with us next season.”
Xavi on Sergi Roberto being criticized:
“Sergi Roberto is one of the most unfairly criticized players that I have ever seen. He always does well, in whatever position. He’s very altruistic, a big Culé, and has an excellent attitude. I want him to renew and stay many years here.”
Xavi on the performance of fringe players:
“I want to highlight the first half. I’m not gonna say it was excellent, but it was very good. Especially from the players who are not playing as much: Eric, Ferran, Ansu, and Sergi Roberto. Pablo Torre did not play today, but he deserved to.”
Xavi on the work rate of Ferran Torres:
“I’m especially happy for Ferran. He always works for the team and sacrifices himself. His attitude is 10/10. People rate him based on his goals, dribbles, and assists, but we see other things in him.”
Xavi on Busquets:
“Busquets was prepared to start today, but I preferred not to play him.”
