Xavi spoke about Messi’s return, competing in Europe, the role of Lewandowski, Rashford’s form, and the absence of Pedri and Gavi in his pre-match press conference ahead of Barcelona vs Manchester United.

Xavi on Manchester United’s resurgence:

“First of all, it’s a very difficult game. At the moment, Manchester United is one of the best teams in Europe, the best United in recent years. The credit goes to the coach’s work. Mentality, rhythm, passion…they showed it at Camp Nou.”

Xavi on competing in Europe:

“The fans will push a lot. We have to have personality and a lot of intensity, as well as the mentality of beating a big team in Europe. Perfect scenario. This is a game to say that Barça can compete in Europe.”

Xavi on his gameplan:

I have the system decided, but the idea does not change. We have to occupy the spaces, we are a very offensive team. Understanding the game.”

Xavi on the absence of Pedri:

“Pedri gives you order in the midfield, he doesn’t lose balls and Gavi is pure passion, which is what we need tomorrow. There are alternatives, putting order, intensity, and facing one against one on the flanks.”

Xavi on Lewandowski:

“The forwards always need to score and they are up for debate. We look beyond the goals. He has also made a difference in assists. He is our best player, he has changed the mentality of the club.”

Xavi on meeting with Meeting Guardiola in Manchester:

“No, I haven’t spoken to him this week. We have a very good relationship, we leave tomorrow night. I’m sure we’ll meet somewhere else, some other time, for sure.”

Xavi on Rashford:

Rashford is an outstanding player, he’s going through an extraordinary moment, but that’s all. We will try to do the same, but yes, we have to take him and the team into account.”

Xavi on Messi’s return:

“Leo knows that this is his home and the doors are open. He’s my friend and we are in permanent contact. A return will only depend on him”

Would Messi fit into the team?

“Of course, he’s the best player in the world. The best player in history. He would always fit in the team.”
