Xavi during the pre-match press conference ahead of Barcelona vs Manchester United

Xavi spoke about Erik ten Hag, the game against United, Ronald Araujo, Marcus Rashford, Frenkie de Jong being linked to Man Utd in the past, and the outcome of the game in his pre-match press conference ahead of Barcelona vs Manchester United.

Xavi on the game against Man Utd:

“It’s a big game, a spectacular tie for football fans. Both teams are at the best moment. Tomorrow I expect a physical and intense game. We want to show that we have the level to compete in Europe. Man United are a top-level side.”

Xavi on Erik ten Hag:

“Ten Hag is a great coach, reversing United’s situation was not easy. They are motivated again. He is a very interesting coach for me, he makes very interesting variations. He is a reference for offensive coaches who like this kind of football.”

Xavi on winning Europa League:

“I don’t think we are favorites to win the Europa League. There are very good teams in this competition and it’s very tough and difficult to win it. We take it in the best possible way, with motivation, but with humility. We want to go far but we’re up against a tough opponent.”

Xavi on deploying Araujo against Rashford:

“I don’t usually give anything away, but we’re not looking at just one player. We have analyzed what they do in attack and defense, with Rashford but also Garnacho. They are quick in transitions and deadly on counter-attacks.”

Xavi on the outcome of the game:

“Barring a surprise, I think the tie will be decided at Old Trafford. I’m even predicting the results and I’m guessing that little will be decided tomorrow. That’s what we’ve earned.”

Xavi on the importance of the game:

“Matches are always important and even more so in Europe, where we’ve come from a few seasons without success. It’s a good test, no doubt, to see that we can compete in Europe.”

Xavi on Frenkie being linked with Man Utd the last summer:

“Frenkie was very clear with me, he wanted to stay with us and there was no doubt. He is an important player, I am very satisfied with him, with his performance and leadership.”

Xavi on Ronald Araujo:

“Araujoe is a leader. Apart from the technical and tactical conditions, he is a defender who has everything to mark an era at the club and in world football. He is a spectacular player for us.”
