Xavi talks Champions League exit after the 3-0 loss against Bayern

Xavi spoke about being responsible for the current situation, support from the fans, mistakes, La Liga, and being able to keep fighting for titles this season in his post-match press conference.

Xavi’s reaction after the 3-0 defeat against Bayern Munich

Xavi on the defeat against Bayern:

“For the first time this season, I felt like we didn’t compete at all. I think we were mentally affected by our elimination before the match. They overtook us completely. We’re out because of our mistakes, nothing else.”

Xavi on being Eliminated from the Champions League:

“I am the main one responsible for the elimination. The truth is that this year, unlike the last, I felt like we had the squad to win this tournament. What happened is unacceptable.”

“In Munich, we were better than Bayern and we didn’t take advantage of that. I was also affected after the match in Milan. The refereeing decisions were unfair and so was the result.”

Xavi on the support from the fans:

“The fans do not deserve this. They have been amazing and they supported us until the last minute, the least we can offer them is to go to them and thank them.”

Xavi on keep fighting for titles:

“We have to keep going. We have titles to fight for this season. I still think we can and we need to win titles this season.”

Xavi on La Liga:

“How can you say that La Liga has declined? Villarreal reached the semis last year and Madrid won the competition. La Liga is at the same level as the Premier League.”
