Xavi talks Dembele, Lopez, Romeu, Barcelona fans after 3-0 win against Real Madrid

FC Barcelona recently received an abundance of backlash following their 5-3 defeat to Arsenal in their opening game of the pre-season tour currently taking place in the United States of America.

Since then, the Catalans have gone on to face Real Madrid in the second game of the pre-season. This time around, however, Barcelona managed to emerge victorious in a 3-0 demolition of their El Clasico rivals.

Following the game, as reported by Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez took out time to analyze and highlight some of the key takeaways from the game.

Speaking regarding the criticism, nature, and fan base of a club like Barcelona’s, the coach assessed the criticism the team and management had to endure following the loss against Arsenal, yet highlighted how the same critics turn to applause when a win against Real Madrid is guaranteed. Stating:

“Now we will be the best, and the other day, we were a disaster. That’s how we, the ‘culés’ (Barcelona fans), and the environment are. We have done many things well, but we have also made many mistakes that we need to correct. Obviously, the result is spectacular, but at this stage of the season, it is secondary. The important thing now is to improve.”

Another key point Xavi Hernandez evaluated was the improvement showcased by new arrival Oriol Romeu as the leading Barcelona pivot in midfield, stating:

“It’s a great signing. He is a very mature footballer who wins duels and is a leader on the field.”

Thirdly, the assessment of La Masia product Fermin Lopez was also something that many around the world who watched El Clasico deemed to be of a class apart. Xavi Hernandez was no different, also confirming he is not someone Barcelona wish to loan away:

“I have always said that the coaching staff has no reservations about young players when they earn it through their performance in training. We have seen Fermín very confident during this preseason, and we believe he can help us throughout the season.”

Lastly, the topic of Ousmane Dembele was referred to, as the Frenchman is being heavily reported to be involved in a possible move away to French club Paris Saint-Germain. Xavi Hernandez, however, retaliated to that suggestion by simply stating that Dembele seems more than content at Barcelona and that the decision at the end of the day lies with the player himself:

“We don’t know what will happen with the market. I see him happy at Barça, but in the end, the decision is up to the player. If there is anything, he will let us know.”
