Barcelona have begun to make progress within the summer transfer market and is now gaining momentum in their pursuit of newer talents to help restructure their team for the upcoming season.
The latest acquisition for Barcelona was Senegalese defender Mikayil Faye, a youngster who played for Croatian second-division team NK Kustosija before having recently moved to Catalonia.
As per trusted journalist and transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano, young Faye is expected to be part of the FC Barcelona first team during their upcoming pre-season when they travel to the United States to take on various European sides under the tutelage and guidance of Xavi Hernandez himself.
The 18-year-old prodigy has also represented his national team on youth levels and is sure to be an acquisition that many consider to be one for the future rather than for the immediate present given his tender age and the subsequent expected time it will take for him to get accustomed to the higher pedigree of top European football.
A strong statured central defender with exceptionally good ability when it comes to his explosive capabilities and his evolution on the ball as well.
Over time, it is expected he may become one of the greater defenders that Barcelona possess in the future with the club hoping to reimagine a scenario similar to the one they managed to achieve through the initial signing of Ronald Araujo, with the Uruguayan being one of the central pillars of the team today.
Taking part in a friendly pre-season with the likes of other youngsters is set to be a great experience for young Faye, as the Senegalese defender will be able to get a taste of top European competition, facing off against the likes of Real Madrid and others, without the risks of official competitive football where a potential loss could prove to be detrimental to the club’s season.
It will be interesting to follow just how much faith and time Xavi Hernandez provides to the 18-year-old Senegalese defender but however much it may be, it should be taken as a learning opportunity by the youngster for future reference.
