Xavi was offered a role in the Spanish National Team – report

Barcelona head coach Xavi

Xavi Hernandez’s performance as the head coach of FC Barcelona is gaining plaudits every day from different corners of the football world. The Sporting Director of the Spanish National team is the latest to show his admiration for the Blaugrana head coach and has also disclosed to the media that he tried to convince him to take a place in the Spanish team’s management.

Albert Luque, the Sporting Director of the Spanish National team, recently participated in the ‘Terrassa al món’ event. During the event, the Director disclosed how Xavi had an opportunity to start his managing career with the Reds, as Luque himself had proposed it to him as per the report from SPORT.

He went on to explain that this offer was made to Xavi when he was still taking the coaching courses. Luque already had an idea of the leadership ability and understanding of the game that Xavi has in himself, which were the primary factors in making that offer.

However, Xavi had other plans at the time and did not commit himself to the national project. Luque still had hope that he would see Xavi get on the bench of the team that he won two UEFA Euro titles and one World Cup with.

Luque was also full of praise for Xavi’s work at Barcelona. He explained that the work required at the club was not easy at all. But the way Xavi had turned the situation at a big club like Barcelona, in just a year, was simply spectacular. Despite Xavi not joining the National Team management directly, Luque and the Spanish National team will definitely benefit from his job at Barcelona as well.

FC Barcelona is one of the main clubs that provide the core of the Spanish National Team, especially in the last few years when Real Madrid has significantly lowered their reliance on Spanish talent. Thus, Xavi’s work with Spanish players in Barcelona will certainly be beneficial for the national team.
