FC Barcelona do not have much time left to make final adjustments to their current squad before the end of the season. The January transfer window will be that last pit stop after which no more arrivals or departures can be experimented with. For this exact reason, Barcelona will be extremely cautious when dealing in the winter window.

However, for now, at least, there is only one arrival expected in the winter. The Barcelona coaches and higher-ups expect Brazilian prodigy Vitor Roque to be the only one to arrive in that window. As such, one of Xavi’s great desires seems to be slipping away.

According to SPORT, the possibility of Barcelona acquiring a certain Argentine midfielder becomes less and less likely. The player that Xavi Hernandez had in mind was none other than Giovani Lo Celso. However, his arrival becomes complicated due to various reasons.

While Barcelona themselves having issues with financial fair play are already well documented, Tottenham Hotspur are also a big hurdle. The London-based club seems to show no interest in negotiating for the 27-year-old central midfielder.

His recent form with both club and country has been promising, and his prominence within Spurs has grown. As such, Ange Postecoglou and his club are not thinking of letting him go.

On the other hand, the player fits a certain style of play that Xavi believes would be great for his Barcelona. In particular, he sees that Argentinian as a great complimentary player to help Robert Lewandowski out.

However, it ultimately seems that the acquisition of a new midfielder is now close to impossible. Yet, despite this obstacle, Xavi’s Barcelona remains quite full of talent and quality depth.

A solid replacement for the injured Gavi would undoubtedly have been welcome, but despite the improbable chances, Barcelona will continue to aspire for great things.
