Xavi’s impressive record with the club surpassed only by two Barcelona managers

There were high hopes pinned on Xavi Hernandez as he became the head coach for FC Barcelona at the end of 2021. While everything has not gone exactly to plan, the former midfielder has been able to do a good job during his stint at the Catalan club.

Xavi has signed his renewal with Barcelona, which will now keep him with the club for another year than what he was originally contracted with. The highlights of his career as a Barcelona coach remain the La Liga victory and the Spanish Super Cup win last season.

63.91% victory rate with Xavi

However, Xavi has played a role deeper than just winning the trophies. As Iniesta commented on the eve of Xavi’s renewal, the current head coach took over the job in a very difficult period for the club. The team was demoralized with consecutive humiliating exits from Europe, and it remained a challenge for Xavi to instill the winning spirit back into the team.

Xavi was varyingly successful in this objective in the different competitions that he led his team into. Xavi has accumulated a 63.91% victory rate with Barcelona, as he has led the team to sixty-two victories, sixteen draws, and nineteen defeats in all competitions. Only Pep Guardiola (72.46%) and Luis Enrique (76.24%) have a better winning percentage than Xavi.

Struggles in Europe and Copa del Rey

The worrying aspect is that the team’s struggles in Europe still continue, with the team having more defeats (4) than victories (3) under Xavi in the Uefa Champions League. However, this record will improve as Xavi has a more reliable and competent team at his disposal this season and a relatively easy group to advance from.

In La Liga, Xavi has got the full points on fifty occasions, got no points on ten occasions, and got only a single point in another ten matches, with seventy total matches played, thus having a winning percentage of 71.43% according to Mundo Deportivo. His team has scored 135 goals in these matches, while conceding 49 themselves.
