Xavi’s plans with the erratic stars of FC Barcelona – report

Barcelona head coach Xavi

Having already won La Liga, the season of FC Barcelona is now effectively over, as there are no other trophies the club can contend for this season. However, there are still some matches left in La Liga that the club has to play, and Xavi is looking to take maximum advantage of these matches for his team.

Four matches are left in La Liga, and according to Mundo Deportivo, Xavi is planning to use the fringe players in the squad for these matches. However, the core of the team will remain the same so that the team does not lose too much of its shape.

Thus, Eric Garcia, Marcos Alonso, Sergi Roberto, and Jordi Alba will be playing a leading role in the defense in these upcoming matches. Eric Garcia has not started a match for a month and has only 5 appearances this season.

Alba has also played 5 matches this season, while Marcos Alonso has been relatively more active. Sergi Roberto missed a month and a half with an injury. Ter Stegen will also appear in these matches, as he still has the Zamora trophy to contend for.

The midfield will also see changes as Xavi is planning to rest Gavi, who had played non-stop this season. Thus Kessie will be getting more chances in these remaining games, while Pablo Torre will also be getting a run-in, depending on his commitments with the youth team.

Busquets has played throughout the season, but as these few games are going to be his last games for the club, he would also be in the lineup.

In the attack, Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres will be looking to get greater chances, as they couldn’t get the required continuity in the team during the season. Ousmane Dembele has also returned from injury, and these games would be a good opportunity for Xavi to incorporate him into the team without any pressure.

In addition to getting them in shape, these matches will also allow FC Barcelona to showcase the talent these fringe players have, which would help the club in getting satisfactory value from them in the transfer market.
