Despite the obvious economic issues at FC Barcelona, the coaching staff continues to dream of securing their ideal players. Players that can imbalance, players that can stabilize, and most importantly, players that fit Xavi’s system.
As per Mundo Deportivo, Xavi Hernandez has communicated the two signings he believes should be the utmost priority. Barcelona legend and Argentine World Cup winner, Lionel Messi and the backbone of Real Sociedad, Martin Zubimendi, are reportedly the chosen two.
When it comes to Lionel Messi, it is no secret that FC Barcelona are willing to go to extreme lengths to acquire his services. Moreover, Xavi Hernandez believes that the ex-Barcelona forward provides the team with both vital goals and line-breaking passes that could unlock a completely new dimension for the team.
His current tally of 20 goals and 19 assists in 37 matches across all competitions is a testament to his eternal quality that continues to amaze even at the age of 35.
His signing requires the Catalan club to go through with their Feasibility Plan and fulfill their demands so that they may be economically sound enough to register the player and bring him in. While it does seem to be on track in the case of Messi, the fate of the coaching staff’s other ideal signing is a bit more troubling.
With the departure of Sergio Busquets now official and imminent in terms of time left, Barcelona desperately needs to reinforce its pivot position.
In terms of relatively feasible options, the names of players such as Sofyan Amrabat, Guido Rodriquez, and Ruben Neves continue to appear. However, from a sporting perspective, Xavi and his staff are clear that the perfect signing would indeed be Martin Zubimendi.
Possessing incredible levels of awareness, a strong range of passes as well as committed tactical understanding, Zubimendi is believed to be Xavi’s answer to a “Busquets alternative”. While in this regard the player’s signing feels like a no-brainer, it is the financial aspect of the operation that is concerning.
With the 24-year-old’s release clause set at €60 million and his contract running until 2027, his signing is believed to be impossible at this moment in time.
However, as per Mundo Deportivo, should Barcelona be willing to squeeze through and put further effort into this deal as Xavi insists, there is reason to believe that the player will listen to the offer despite his insistence on staying at La Real.
