In the last few weeks, the FC Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi has grown at an exponential pace to become a highly reliable player for Xavi Hernandez.

While this progression is surprising for outside observers, people inside the club would not be as surprised by his explosion as he had always shown his enormous potential and talent during his time at the youth level.

But now that his invaluable talents are on display for everyone at the highest level, and as he starts attracting the attention of people outside the club, Barcelona are already getting attentive to his contractual situation.

The defender’s current contract ends in 2026, so the Catalans still have some time on their hands to solve this situation. But as events are taking place at a very rapid pace, SPORT reports that Barcelona have already undertaken contact with the player’s agent.

This contact took place through a telephone conversation in which Barcelona communicated with his entourage their satisfaction with his progress and their readiness to commit to his future.

The contacts have not gone beyond this point up to now, but both sides are looking to discuss a new contract for the youngster that will reflect his improved role and performances with the first team. Furthermore, these are not the only negotiations in which Barcelona are involved with respect to the defender.

As already reported here, Cubarsi’s progression has not gone unnoticed by the Spanish Football Federation, which is also contemplating calling him up both for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2024 and the Olympic Games.

However, Barcelona are afraid that such a high workload on the young player can lead to a case similar to the one experienced by Pedri and Gavi, who have both had to pay a high price for their high playing time with the Spanish national team.

Thus, Barcelona are also negotiating with the RFEF to ensure they can come to an agreement regarding the youngster’s duties with Spain, with the player’s health the topmost concern on the Catalan club’s mind.
