After having tried for the last several years, FC Barcelona have been able to part ways with the USA international fullback Sergino Dest this summer. The Catalans reached an agreement with the Dutch side PSV Eindhoven for the defender’s transfer, with Dest signing a contract with the Eredivisie champions till 2028.
Although the Blaugranes will not receive any monetary compensation for this transfer at this point in time, they still can get something from this transfer in the future as they have kept a percentage for any future fee paid for him.
In the last few years, the relationship between Barcelona and the fullback has been quite tense, as the Catalans could not offer him a place in their team, and actively looked to push him out of the club.
Still, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, the defender took to social media to say his goodbyes to the Spanish club and recall the happier times he had there:
“This is an emotional moment for me! Such an incredible club with a beautiful history! I would have liked it to be different, but sometimes in life, things are out of your control. I had a great time, especially in the first two years.”
“I would like to thank the fans, the staff, the players, and everyone who supported me during these wonderful years. I hope we meet again. Thank you for everything!”
After having a very good season with PSV Eindhoven on loan, Dest suffered a serious injury at the end of the season, and also provided an update on his condition in another social media video:
“Unfortunately, I tore my anterior cruciate ligament and will soon undergo surgery. I will do my best to return to my level as soon as possible.”
Hopefully, this will be the case for him as he embarks on another chapter of his footballing journey. Things did not go exactly as planned for him at Barcelona, but hopefully, he will be able to showcase his talent to the fullest with PSV in the future.
