As Manchester United travel to face FC Barcelona for the UEFA Europa League Play-offs at the Spotify Camp Nou for the first leg, they find themselves with somewhat of a depleted squad list.

From amongst the players unavailable, the particular few that stand out are arguably Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez and Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen. The defender has thus far had 32 appearances for the Red Devils this season since his move from Ajax and has been instrumental in maintaining their defensive rigidity. Eriksen on the other hand has been a crucial part of United’s midfield this season, having featured 31 times for the English side.

Other absentees include the likes of French forward Anthony Martial, and Brazilian winger Antony alongside midfielders Marcel Sabitzer (Austria), Scott McTominay (Scotland), and Donny Van De Beek (Netherlands). All these players are also attributed to being integral components of Ten Hag’s side.

The depth in the forward lines that Martial’s versatility provides will be sorely missed, as well as the explosiveness that Antony can provide on the right flank of their attack. Sabitzer also ended up proving himself to be quite the viable midfielder for United over the last couple of games that he has played for the side since the beginning of his loan from German club Bayern Munich.

Regardless of these absentees, Manchester United will indefinitely prove to be one of FC Barcelona’s toughest hurdles thus far this season and the Catalans themselves will be ardent in their wait for the commencement of this European tussle.
