Barcelona have to constantly worry about the possibility of the difficulties they could face this season. With only half the campaign completed thus far, there is an entire second half to get through. For Barcelona, this upcoming half will either make or complete break their whole season.

Yet, the club would first like to address their own handicaps before taking on such a challenge. Having lost Gavi, one of the side’s most important pieces, to an ACL injury that now sees him sidelined for the rest of the season, Barcelona are in dire need of an injection of dynamism and energy in their midfield.

For this reason, Xavi and the sporting section of the club continues to insist upon a new arrival. However, there is a clear division of ideologies within the club, according to AS. This difference primarily lies between the coaches of the club and those directly linked to Deco.

One on side, the coaches believe in the arrival of a technical player, while on the other, the sporting sector of the club wishes to incorporate a more defensive option. Xavi’s ideal acquisition, for instance, leans more towards the arrival of someone like Aleix Garcia.

The Girona captain is seen as the right kind of technical incorporation that could uplift the team. Simultaneously, his arrival would also weaken a direct rival of Barcelona in the form of Girona. However, it is due to this exact reason that their rivals would be uncomfortable in letting their captain leave so easily.

On the flip side, the other end of Barcelona believes in the arrival of a more defensive-minded midfielder. The name of Amadou Onana from Everton seems to be the clear favorite for now. However, that incorporation has its own issues. As per several reports, the economic demands from Everton far exceed what Barcelona would be willing to pay.

Beyond just this decision to decide who to pursue, Barcelona must first sort out their finances. To be specific, a €40 million injection from Libero remains unpaid. For this reason, Barça must first acquire another interested buyer, and while there are some currently being negotiated with, nothing has thus far been finalized.

Only after they can complete those progressing negotiations can Barcelona make a transfer decision. Ultimately, the tiebreaker between the two different midfield options will have to be done through the opinions of Joan Laporta and the Board of Directors. Until then, Barcelona have to make do with what they have at their disposal.
