‘Barca 0-0 Getafe: Xavi’s post-match press conference

Xavi on securing the 2nd position in La Liga:

“Today’s draw has secured the 2nd place. For me, we achieved this season’s goals by qualifying for the Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup. Now we have to prepare for the next season but before that, we have to play Villarreal and beat them.”

Xavi on being competitive from next season:

“There are a lot of positives, now thinking about next season we want to be more competitive. We will compete for all titles next season and we will work on that from the beginning of the summer.”

Xavi on the economic situation:

“Our situation has been complicated for months, but now it is the time to act and improve our economic situation.”

Xavi on his team’s performance against Getafe:

“We lacked intensity, the finishing touch, and the access to the opponent’s goal. We controlled the match despite pressure from Getafe.”

Xavi on Riqui Puig’s future at the club:

“We’ll see about that. I diagnosed the team and identified reinforcements but it depends on the economic situation of the team.”

Xavi on Memphis’s injury during the game:

“Memphis had a hip injury but it’s not serious.”

Xavi on the planning for next season:

“This week we will plan and decide everything based on the economic situation of the club.”

“Alejandro Balde was great today. He was good in the attack and showed his character. I am very happy for Balde and Mika Marmol. They have a bright future ahead.”

Xavi on this season’s outcome:

“We haven’t been able to compete with Real Madrid in La Liga. We haven’t been able to compete in the rest of the competitions. With this second-place finish, we have saved a campaign that could have been much worse.”

I have made the XI today based on what I saw in training. Adama didn’t play either.”

Xavi on next season’s planning:

“We must do great planning for the next season. Alemany and Jordi Cruyff know what I believe and what we have lacked to be able to compete this season. We have to take into account the economic situation, depending on how we are in that aspect and we will have our priorities.”
