FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are two of the biggest football clubs not only in Spain but throughout the world. The two institutions are among the most admired and followed entities in the entire world, and they both share a historical rivalry that goes beyond sports and takes on even social, cultural, and political importance.

However, primarily, the rivalry between these sides is of a sporting nature, and it is here that the passions of the supporters of the two sides are the most prominent.

Matches between them are never uneventful, and both sides try to compete with each other as vigorously as possible, as showcased by the rivalry between Vinicius Jr and Ronald Araujo in recent clashes.

This is clear from the narrow difference between the titles won by these two clubs. As Mundo Deportivo notes, Real Madrid has won 100 official titles in its history, but Barcelona can equalize this number if they win the Spanish Super Cup tonight, as the Catalans currently have 99 titles to their name.

FC Barcelona pips Real Madrid in the number of domestic titles, as the Catalans have 77 national titles, compared to Merengues’ 69. However, the Madrid club has 31 international titles to their name, which is superior to the Blaugranes’ 22 titles.

Both the clubs have won two Latin Cups, which are included in this sum, but the Fairs Super Cups are not added by Barcelona themselves in their list of official titles.

The last title won by Barcelona added in this list was the La Liga title that Xavi’s men won after coming out victorious from their tie against Espanyol last season. For Real Madrid, their last title was also won in the previous season, as they became the Copa del Rey Champions.

Thus, the Spanish Super Cup final tonight will have historical significance for both sides, as the Catalans will be looking to match Real Madrid in this trophy count, while the Merengues will be looking to maintain their superiority.
