Although Nico Williams is now the top priority of FC Barcelona for the current summer transfer window, the Catalans are also looking to add a midfielder to their ranks. This is especially the case as the Blaugranes still have not been able to replace Sergio Busquets in their squad, and need a midfield pivot for the next season.
Several candidates have been linked with Barcelona for this position, with the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Amadou Onana, and Mikel Merino being some of the candidates being considered by the Catalans.
Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, another player who is attracting the attention of Barcelona is the Uruguayan midfielder, Manuel Ugarte, who currently plays for Paris Saint Germain, and is having a very good 2024 Copa America.
Reports from France indicate that Barcelona would be one of the sides interested in signing him if he looks to leave PSG. But the Blaugranes are not going to be the only ones, as Manchester City is being touted as another possible destination.
The midfielder is represented by Jorge Mendes, and the agent’s good relations with the current Barcelona hierarchy can help the Catalans in such a potential operation.
However, it looks unlikely that Laporta’s club will enter the bidding for the Uruguayan, particularly as PSG signed him for €60 million last summer and would be looking to sell him at an even higher price, and Barcelona’s economic conditions force them to be rather frugal in the market.
Furthermore, the midfielder himself also wants to establish himself as an important player at PSG in his second season at the club, and Luis Enrique will make the final decision about his future. But even if he ends up leaving PSG, Barcelona are unlikely to be his next destination, mainly because of the economic conditions of the Catalan club.
