FC Barcelona will be looking at the upcoming transfer window with the aim of bolstering the squad as the end of the 22-23 footballing season looms. The Catalan giants are looking at external options as well as internal ones in order to decide the best way forward to compete at the highest level.

One of the more important issues at hand is the contract renewal of club captain Sergio Busquets. The La Masia graduate faces a tough decision as his current contract with the club comes to an end in June.

Despite a renewal offer on the table since March 15, Busquets remains undecided about his future. The veteran midfielder, who has been with the club since 2005, is weighing up his options and considering offers from the United States and Saudi Arabia.

Busquets had initially assumed that this would be his last season with Barcelona and had been planning to play in the United States next season. However, recent good performances on the field, combined with the interest of former teammate and now coach, Xavi, in keeping him at the club, as well as the possible return of Lionel Messi, have led Busquets to reconsider his future.

With lucrative offers from both Saudi Arabia and the USA, Barcelona’s contract offer is the least attractive in terms of the financials, as the club is offering him a salary significantly lower than his current earnings owing to LaLiga’s strict salary cap. This has led Busquets to take his time and consider all his options before making a decision.

Barcelona recognizes Busquets as a club legend and understands that he deserves time to make his decision. Despite not putting any pressure on Busquets to decide, the club has now set a deadline of two weeks for him to make a decision, as they need to know his decision so that they can plan for the next season, according to Mundo Deportivo.
